Abstract
|

|
Osteoporosis is a common clinical disorder which may cause backache or fracture in the elderly, its incidence is known to raise with age, particularly in woman, as Birge et al. (1967) reported, about 20% out of over 50 years old person are involved with osteoporosis.
Albright et al. (1941) described the clinical entity which we now recognized as osteoporosis. It is characterized by a reduced amount of bony tissue per unit volume of bone. There are no known specific biochemicdI abnormalities in osteoporosis.
Recently, as the life span of human being is extended, the number of elderly person who is suffering from backache is also increased.
Many investigators have studied about the nature and causes of osteoporosis, and their treatment but the causative factor are not known yet.
Nordin et al. (1960), Garn et al. (1964), Omori(1966) ect. reported the incidence of osteoporosis of their own country, but there is no any study or report about osteoporosis in Korea.
Radiological measurement of bone density had been attempted in the past by using aluminium and other standards by different authors, Nordin and his coworker reported a new methods of radiological diagnosis of osteoporosis in 1960.
